After
the short welcoming of the participants by Mrs. Athena Bazou and
Mrs. Eleni Malliou on behalf of Ellinogermaniki Agogi,
the participants in the Ad-hoc.com kick-off meeting introduced
themselves and presented the institutions that they were representing.
Following
the presentation of the partners Mrs. Malliou presented the general
framework of the project (short description of the
project’s objectives, aims, main activities, target groups and
outcomes). A discussion about the language-learning tool that
will be the main outcome of the project followed. Special emphasis
was given to the fact that this innovative advanced multimedia
language-learning tool should be flexible and user friendly in
order to be adapted to the needs of the modern "mobile"
European. The proposed pedagogical method of autonomous self-directed
learning was also emphasized.
Mrs.
Bazou continued with the issue of the implementation of the
project and the workplan
of the activities. In the discussion that followed a lot of
interesting questions were put forward.
Mr.
Andrea Gaggioli (acts as an observer to this meeting and comes
from the Instituto Auxologico Italiano) focused on the different
stages of the project’s implementation.
He
proposed seven different stages:
1)
user profile
2)
user needs analysis
3)
user tasks analysis
4)
prototype design and adaptation
5)
implementation
6)
evaluation
7)
test of the evaluation -does the selected implementation of the
project work in a large scale?-
Mrs.
Bazou emphasized the fact that the heart of the project is the
user centered analysis and that the implementation will be focused
on this specific aim.
In
the afternoon the meeting continued with a very important conversation
between all the partners about the content collection.
Mrs.
Bazou presented an example of how the content should be like.
She mentioned the specific modules of every unit of the content
and she proposed to use questionnaires in order to analyze the
users’ needs. Mrs. Bazou also presented examples of the questionnaires
to the partners. The presentation was completed by a demonstration
of a video for language learning created by the project Artemis.
Mrs. Malliou mentioned that the tool aims to present linguistic
content embedded in its cultural context furthering the understanding
of European’s cultural diversity. From this it was concluded that
the communication should be effective and not only technological.
Mrs. Luisa Viglietta from COREP suggested that for the content
collection questionnaires but also previous experience and interviews
are very important. Mrs. Yvonne Katsabi representing MEWCAT said
that questionnaires are not always the best approach for tourists.
She proposed discussions as a better solution. Mrs. Gudrun Goetz
from the University of Graz proposed to use questionnaires but
also to film one day’s activities of the students. Mr. Robert
Erber representing Ernst Klett Verlag mentioned that they could
use their previous experience to determine the users’ needs.
After
the conversation Mrs. Yvonne Katsabi presented a video for language
learning in which special emphasis was given to the intercultural
element.
The
evaluation
of the project was the next presentation by Mrs. Malliou.
Mrs.
Malliou emphasized the need to have reports from all the partners
every week.
