After
a short welcoming of the participants by Dr. Sofoklis Sotiriou
and Mrs. Malliou Eleni, representing Ellinogermaniki
Agogi, the participants started the discussing about the project's
pedagogical framework. All the participants gave a short description
of the pedagogical work done during the first project year concerning
their Institution. The main focus of the discussion was on the
development of the language learning material. During the first
year all the partners involved in the pedagogical work had developed
language learning scenarios. Each partner had initially developed
two scenarios describing an everyday situation. In the following
all the scenarios were translated in all target languages. Mrs.
Goetz, representing the University of Graz pointed out the
difficulties concerning the translation of the scenarios which
were mainly caused by the fact that the scenarios were referring
to situations that exist in one country but not necessary to all
the others. Mrs. Viglietta, representing COREP, agreed
on that. Concerning the same discussion Mr. Filby pointed
out that the cultural aspects of the scenarios are very important.
The difficulties and the problems that rose during the development
phase were also discussed during this meeting. An important theme
concerning the development of the language learning material has
been the construction of the exercises. The partnership discussed
this matter and decided about the content and the format of the
Ad-Hoc.com exercises.
The first two pilot runs of the project were also discussed during
this second meeting. The partnership pointed out the main difficulties
that had faced during the pilots. Mrs. Malliou focused
on the parameters that should be taken into account during the
pilot of the application. Mrs. Viglietta and Mrs. Goetz
stressed the fact that the main problem of the trials has been
the difficulty to download the videos. This problem occurred as
the coordinating Institution had decided to ensure the quality
disregarding the size of the videos. The partnership decided to
ensure both the quality and the easy to use of the videos by having
two different versions of the videos.
In
the following the results of the market research analysis that
was realized during the first project's year were discussed. Mr.
Erber, representing the publishing house Ernst Klett, presented
to the rest of the partnership the main findings and conclusions
of the research.
In
the afternoon of the same day the meeting continued with a very
important conversation between the project's partners. The technological
framework of the project has been discussed the main theme of
this section. Mrs. Malliou presented the web application
of the language learning platform. The partnership discussed over
the outlook of the application and agreed on its final mode.
In the following Mr. Miliarakis, representing FORTHnet
presented the PDA application of the platform. A discussion concerning
the correct use of the application followed. This interaction
between experts from pedagogy and technology is one of the project's
main aims as it is believed to be the basis for development of
an innovative language learning material.
The
last subject that was discussed during the first day of the meeting
was the project's evaluation. Mrs. Malliou explained the
difficulties concerning this matter and in the following she described
the evaluation process as it will be realized during the second
year.
